77th edition of the WeinKulturDorf wine festival with proclamation of the Wine Queen and parade
Dernau sees itself as a WeinKulturDorf (Wine Culture Village) and has, over decades, filled this concept with events such as the Winzerfest (wine festival), Musik & Wein (Music & Wine), the Martinsmarkt (St. Martin's Market), and the Weinherbst Mittelahr (Mittelahr Wine Autumn). The WEIN.BERG.FEST. wine festival is the central major event: three festival days on which the entire village becomes the venue. Courtyards, squares, streets, and the Weinkulturbühne (Wine Culture Stage) become a shared stage for the festival days.
With its 77th edition, the Dernau wine festival is one of the most traditional wine festivals in the region. After the flood disaster in 2021, which severely affected Dernau, the festival has gained additional symbolic meaning: it stands for the revival of the valley, for the resilience of the winegrowing families, and for the solidarity of the village community.
On Friday evening, the outgoing Wine Queen celebrates her official farewell evening, and on Saturday, the new Wine Queen 2026/27 will be proclaimed. This double ceremony has been part of the festival's dramaturgy for decades and provides emotional highlights. The coronations are accompanied by festive speeches, music, and contributions from friendly wine royalty of the region.
On Sunday at 2 PM, the grand parade sets off. All local associations, winegrowing families, the new and former wine royalty, and friendly associations march through the village center. The parade has been the heart of the festival for generations and attracts visitors from all over the Rhineland.
The Dernau wine festival traditionally coincides with the start of the Mittelahr Wine Autumn, which runs from the end of September to the end of October. Thus, the festival is both its own highlight and the beginning of the autumn festival season along the Rotweinwanderweg (Red Wine Hiking Trail).
Stands, courtyards, and stages are spread throughout the village center. The wine stands open on Friday, and are in operation all day on the weekend. The stage program ranges from "kölsch" live music to acoustic sets from the region.
The complete stage and parade program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in advance. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years.
